RCN3

Description

The RCN3 (reticulocalbin 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

RCN3 is a molecular chaperone that assists protein biosynthesis and transport in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). It is required for the proper biosynthesis and transport of pulmonary surfactant-associated proteins A and D (SP-A, SP-D) and the lipid transporter ABCA3. RCN3 regulates the expression and degradation of these proteins through the ER-associated protein degradation pathway, playing a crucial role in pulmonary surfactant homeostasis. It also has anti-fibrotic activity by negatively regulating the secretion of type I and type III collagens. This calcium-binding protein transiently associates with immature PCSK6 and regulates its secretion.

RCN3 is also known as RLP49.
