Description
The RIC1 (RIC1 homolog, RAB6A GEF complex partner 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.
The RIC1-RGP1 complex functions as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF), activating RAB6A by replacing bound GDP with free GTP. This action is crucial for the efficient fusion of endosome-derived vesicles with the Golgi apparatus. The complex also plays a role in the recycling of mannose-6-phosphate receptors. RIC1 is essential for the phosphorylation and localization of GJA1, a protein involved in cell-cell communication. Additionally, RIC1 acts as a regulator of procollagen transport and secretion, playing a critical role in the proper development of cartilage and the craniofacial skeleton.
