RPAP2

Description

The RPAP2 (RNA polymerase II associated protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

RPAP2, also known as RNA polymerase II associated protein 2, is a human gene.

RPAP2 acts as a protein phosphatase, exhibiting CTD phosphatase activity that regulates the transcription of snRNA genes. It binds to phosphorylated 'Ser-7' on the C-terminal heptapeptide repeat domain (CTD) of the largest RNA polymerase II subunit (POLR2A) and dephosphorylates 'Ser-5' on the CTD, facilitating snRNA gene transcription. RPAP2 also plays a role in the unfolded protein response (UPR) by dephosphorylating ERN1, a sensor for ER stress, downstream of EIF2AK3/PERK. This dephosphorylation can lead to the termination of unsuccessful ER-stress adaptation and the induction of apoptosis.

RPAP2 is also known as C1orf82, Rtr1.
