S100A14


Description

The S100A14 (S100 calcium binding protein A14) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

S100A14 is a protein encoded by the S100A14 gene in humans. It belongs to the S100 protein family and contains an EF-hand motif, allowing it to bind calcium. The gene is located in a cluster of S100 genes on chromosome 1. Lower levels of S100A14 have been observed in cancerous tissues, suggesting a role as a tumor suppressor. Reduced S100A14 levels have also been linked to metastasis.

S100A14 modulates P53/TP53 protein levels, influencing cell survival and apoptosis. It can either promote cell proliferation or apoptosis depending on the cellular context. S100A14 also regulates cell migration by adjusting MMP2 levels, a matrix protease controlled by P53/TP53. Interestingly, S100A14 does not bind calcium.

S100A14 is also known as BCMP84, S100A15.
