SNORA66

Description

The SNORA66 (small nucleolar RNA, H/ACA box 66) is a snoRNA gene located on chromosome 1.

SNORA66 is a small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) that is involved in the modification of other RNAs. snoRNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase II and are localized to the nucleolus, a subcompartment of the nucleus where ribosomes are assembled. SNORA66 is a member of the C/D box snoRNA family, which are characterized by the presence of two conserved sequence motifs, known as the C box and the D box. These boxes are involved in the recognition and modification of target RNAs. SNORA66 is predicted to guide the methylation of the 2‘-O-ribose of a specific adenosine residue in the rRNA. This methylation event is important for the proper folding and function of the ribosome.
