SPDEF

Description

The SPDEF (SAM pointed domain containing ETS transcription factor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

SPDEF (SAM pointed domain-containing Ets transcription factor) is a protein encoded by the SPDEF gene in humans. It is an ETS transcription factor expressed in prostate epithelial cells and acts as an androgen-independent transactivator of PSA (prostate-specific antigen) expression. SPDEF has been shown to interact with NKX3-1.

SPDEF acts as an androgen-independent transactivator of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) promoter, binding to 5'-GGAT-3' DNA sequences. It is implicated in the regulation of the prostate gland and potentially in prostate cancer development. Additionally, SPDEF functions as a transcriptional activator for the SERPINB5 promoter.

SPDEF is also known as PDEF, bA375E1.3.
