SRCAP : Snf2 related CREBBP activator protein
Description
The SRCAP (Snf2 related CREBBP activator protein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.
The SRCAP gene provides instructions for making a protein called Snf2-related CREBBP activator protein, or SRCAP. SRCAP is one of several proteins that help activate a gene called CREBBP. The protein produced from the CREBBP gene, called CREB binding protein, plays a key role in regulating cell growth and division and is important for normal development.
SRCAP is a catalytic component of the SRCAP complex, which uses ATP to replace histone H2AZ/H2B dimers with nucleosomal H2A/H2B. This process, known as chromatin remodeling, regulates the transcription of specific genes. SRCAP also acts as a coactivator for CREB-, steroid receptor-, and Notch-mediated transcription.
