Description
The STMN1 (stathmin 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
STMN1 encodes a highly conserved 17 kDa protein called stathmin. Stathmin is essential for regulating the cell cytoskeleton, a scaffold critical for many cellular processes, including cytoplasmic organization, cell division, and cell motility. Stathmin plays a crucial role in regulating the cell cycle. It is uniquely found in eukaryotes. Its function as a key regulatory protein of microtubule dynamics is well-understood. Microtubules are dynamic structures that continuously alternate between assembly and disassembly. Stathmin regulates rapid microtubule remodeling of the cytoskeleton in response to cellular needs. Microtubules are cylindrical polymers of α,β-tubulin.
