SYT4

Description

The SYT4 (synaptotagmin 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 18.

Synaptotagmin-4 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SYT4 gene.

Synaptotagmin-4, also known as Synaptotagmin IV, is a member of the synaptotagmin family that does not bind Ca(2+) (PubMed:23999003). It is involved in the movement of neuronal dense core vesicles (DCVs) by interacting with KIF1A. When neuronal activity increases, phosphorylation by MAPK8/JNK1 weakens the interaction with KIF1A and causes DCVs to move towards synapses (PubMed:23999003). SYT4 also plays a role in dendrite formation by melanocytes (PubMed:23999003).

SYT4 is also known as HsT1192.
