TIMM8B

Description

The TIMM8B (translocase of inner mitochondrial membrane 8 homolog B) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

TIMM8B is a mitochondrial intermembrane chaperone involved in importing and inserting specific multi-pass transmembrane proteins into the mitochondrial inner membrane. It plays a crucial role in transferring beta-barrel precursors from the TOM complex to the SAM complex of the outer membrane. TIMM8B acts as a chaperone, preventing the aggregation of hydrophobic precursors and guiding them through the intermembrane space.

TIMM8B is also known as DDP2, TIM8B.
