USF2

Description

The USF2 (upstream transcription factor 2, c-fos interacting) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

USF2 is a protein encoded by the USF2 gene in humans. It belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix leucine zipper family and acts as a cellular transcription factor. USF2 activates transcription by binding to Pyridine-rich initiator (Inr) elements and E-box motifs. Two transcript variants producing distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene. USF2 interacts with USF1, PPRC1, and BRCA1. Its expression is repressed by the microRNA miR-10a.

USF2 is a transcription factor that binds to a symmetrical DNA sequence known as E-boxes (5'-CACGTG-3'). These E-boxes are found in a variety of viral and cellular promoters, regulating gene expression.

USF2 is also known as FIP, bHLHb12.
