USO1

Description

The USO1 (USO1 vesicle transport factor) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

USO1 (General vesicular transport factor p115) is a human protein encoded by the USO1 gene. This peripheral membrane protein shuttles between the cytosol and the Golgi apparatus during interphase. Its activity is regulated by phosphorylation: dephosphorylation allows it to associate with the Golgi membrane, while phosphorylation leads to dissociation. Ras-associated protein 1 recruits USO1 to COPII vesicles during ER budding. USO1 interacts with COPII vesicle-associated SNAREs to form a cis-SNARE complex, promoting targeting to the Golgi apparatus. Along with GOLGA2 and giantin, USO1 is sequentially involved in transport from the ER to the cis/medial Golgi compartments. USO1 interacts with several proteins, including GOSR1, GOSR2, SCFD1, and STX5.

USO1 is a general vesicular transport factor that plays a crucial role in intercisternal transport within the Golgi apparatus. It is essential for the fusion of transcytotic vesicles with the target membrane and/or the subsequent binding of these vesicles to the target membrane. USO1 may function as a vesicular anchor by interacting with the target membrane and maintaining close proximity between the vesicular and target membranes.

USO1 is also known as P115, TAP, VDP.
