USPL1
Description
The USPL1 (ubiquitin specific peptidase like 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.
USPL1 is a SUMO-specific isopeptidase that removes SUMO modifications from proteins (desumoylation). It exhibits a stronger preference for SUMO2 and SUMO3, cleaving them more efficiently. USPL1 also processes full-length SUMO proteins into their mature forms. Notably, it plays a crucial role in snRNA transcription mediated by RNA polymerase II within the Cajal bodies. USPL1 is part of complexes that bind to U snRNA genes.
