ZC3H3

Description

The ZC3H3 (zinc finger CCCH-type containing 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

ZC3H3 is essential for the transport of polyadenylated mRNAs out of the nucleus. It boosts transcription activated by ACVR1B, a process that depends on SMAD proteins. In laboratory settings, ZC3H3 binds to single-stranded DNA but not to double-stranded DNA. It is also thought to be involved in RNA cleavage.

ZC3H3 is also known as SMICL, ZC3HDC3.
