ZFX

Description

The ZFX (zinc finger protein X-linked) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

The ZFX gene on the X chromosome encodes a protein involved in regulating gene expression. This protein belongs to the krüppel C2H2-type zinc-finger protein family, containing domains for DNA binding, nuclear localization, and transcriptional activation. It is structurally similar to a related gene on the Y chromosome (ZFY). Studies have shown that ZFX is essential for the self-renewal of embryonic and adult hematopoietic stem cells, acting as a key regulator of their maintenance. Multiple variations of the ZFX protein exist due to alternative splicing. The ZFX gene is associated with X-linked neurodevelopmental disorders.

ZFX is also known as MRXS37, ZNF926.
